"Secret Spoonbill Garden"

This felted painting is part of my ongoing portfolio series celebrating Louisiana wildlife. The Roseate Spoonbill has always captivated me with its elegance and luminous pink plumage, and I knew I had to capture its magical presence in fiber. Because of its scale, this work became one of my most ambitious undertakings to date—an immersive process of layering, sculpting, and refining.

The background was created through wet and Nuno felting, blending merino wool, viscose, bamboo, silk, and shimmering Angelina fibers to evoke a vibrant, dreamlike environment. Into this lush backdrop, I needle felted the bird itself, building up its distinctive details feather by feather. The result is both a celebration of the Spoonbill’s beauty and a reflection of my deep connection to the rich natural world of Louisiana.
